The Family Court

When long-standing barristers working in the Family Court themselves question its purpose, it's time to change.

What is the point in placing children in care at a cost - approximately £38,000 per annum - that could instead provide a child with family support in the home and opportunities in life?

Why are local authorities allowed to perpetuate a system rooted in the 19th century with no corresponding legal duty to support a child in its home?

Why are mothers 'known to social services' deprived of their new-born babies in hospital and then forced, when at their lowest ebb, to try to defend their ability to parent in Court before the latter frees the baby for adoption. This barbaric practice is not followed in Europe.

Read, 'Is the public law family justice system failing those it is supposed to serve', written by a practising barrister with over 20 years experience at the Bar.

Take a look at Louise Tickle's website. A journalist with experience of the Family Court, she raises some interesting questions.
